I should have written this up yesterday but I was exhausted.
Tuesday, April 1st, no joke, was orientation for my new job with Meridian Behavioral Health Services. It was a long day, from 9 am to 5 pm, with an hour lunch. Myself and two new MSWs were there and we learned - no, we received - too much information for one day.
However, it was still a good day. Met some people in passing, got a quick tour of the place, learned benefits even though I don't get any at this point. (More on that later.)
The best part to me was having the CEO, Joe Ferrara, in to talk to use about values, vision, and so forth. Vibrant man, very friendly and yet crisp and business-like. He's a psychologist or psychiatrist turned CEO out of circumstances. Remember that he talked to us.
We got the usual spiel on what harassment is, what is expected of us, and so forth. Basically, the who, what, when and where of the company, as is the way of an orientation.
As I was walking out with Denise, my supervisor (and Accounts Receivable Officer), I told her that Bo (Coordinator for Peer Support Specialists) wants me to attend the Peer Support training coming up mid and end of April, and that he said he would call her to arrange for working out the hours. I work Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 to 5:00 with a 1/2 hour for lunch, and the training is 1 week, then a 1 week break, then another week.
As we stopped at the front desk area, Joe was there, as was someone whose name I can't remember. Denise says to Joe and the other lady, "I already have a bone to pick with Bo! He wants to steal her away for Peer Support Employment training!" (Paraphrased.) To this, Joe says, "Well, she's ready for it!"
Talk about positive reinforcement!
End of Day 0.
